Tell us your name and position at the Moebius Syndrome Foundation.
Kyle Tobar, Social Media Assistant
Why is it important for you to serve at the MSF?
With having Moebius myself, it’s so important to recognize those that went through the same thing as me growing up. The struggles with making friends, finding your own spot in community, etc. MSF has provided a safe space where peers can relate to one another and they can find a safe place to express themselves. It’s so important for me to serve to provide all the help MSF needs, a peer people can come to and ask for advice and share their stories. A peer to lend a helping hand when someone needs it.
What does the Moebius Syndrome Foundation mean to you, personally?
It means that there’s a place for community and long lasting friendships that some people have never had in their lives. Growing up, having these struggles that some people never understood. I’m glad the foundation has provided that space for people to express themselves and get to know one another. Creating relationships that can last for a lifetime. A place we can look for resources when we need it to corporate into our everyday lives.
What might the Moebius Syndrome Foundation community be interested to learn about you?
I’m a huge fan of music, movies, and entertainment in general. I’ve also been playing guitar since I was 12. I think if someone would start a conversation with me about any of those things, I can talk about that kind of stuff for hours. I also have a background of working with the local music scene in the area of Denver, CO. I’ll travel when I can just to see music, it’s one of my favorite things to do.
What do you want the Moebius syndrome community to know about your role and what you do?
So I am a social media assistant but to be more specific, I do monitor all the socials including the Facebook group, “The Home for The Moebius Community.” I just watch what people say, make sure it’s a civil environment, make sure everyone is just having fun and sharing their stories. Also giving advice and asking questions relating to Moebius. It’s been fun getting to know everyone and hearing what everybody goes through in their everyday lives.
Anything else you would like to add? Any long term goals for the Foundation? Can community members reach out to you if they have any questions or comments about the Foundation/ideas they may have?
I’m so open to talking to people! Never be afraid of asking questions. There’s no right or wrong ones. It’s always awesome hearing people’s thoughts and how the foundation can grow. I’m always open to conversations that can be about anything if it’s about personal lives, some advice, some stories, etc.
I really hope the foundation continues to grow and we can grow a very strong community that changes everybody’s lives like it did mine in 2023.
