Michael was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. There is no place on earth Michael would rather be than with his family (his parents who have been married for 46 years, 4 siblings, 3 Brothers In Law, 1 Sister In Law, and 13 nieces and nephews). Michael was diagnosed with Moebius syndrome when just a few months old, more than 40 years ago. Michael holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctorate, also from Brigham Young University. When he is not spending time with his family, Michael loves to watch and play sports, read, and learn about things that stretch his curiosity.
Tell us your name and position (executive committee, staff, board member).
Michael, Member of the Board, Moebius Syndrome Foundation
Why is it important for you to serve on the Board of Directors?
I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors as it will help fulfill my wish of helping to build awareness of Moebius syndrome, and of contributing to the building of the Moebius Community, a community I am proud to be a part of. Additionally, I want to show children with Moebius syndrome that although we are different, we can accomplish anything and see our dreams come true.
What does the Moebius Syndrome Foundation mean to you, personally?
The Moebius Syndrome Foundation means everything to me! Growing up, I was told that I would never meet another person with Moebius syndrome. Then, in 1996, when I was 14 years old, I was able to connect with the Foundation and find a community that has blessed my life immensely. Without the Foundation, this would not have been possible.
What might the Moebius Syndrome Foundation community be interested to learn about you?
When I was 33 years old, I decided to go back to school and earn a J.D. This came as a result of wanting to help people. I now practice in the area of Estate Planning and thoroughly enjoy the opportunity it gives me to connect with and help individuals and families.
What do you want the Moebius syndrome community to know about the Board of Directors and what we do?
I want the Moebius Community to know that we are here for you. Everything we do and every decision we make takes into account what is in your best interest. Through our efforts, we hope to create relationships among the community that will last a lifetime. We also want to continue to help the Foundation be on sure ground so that the Foundation can continue to achieve its mission for years to come.
Anything else you would like to add? Any long term goals for the Foundation? Can community members reach out to you if they have any questions or comments about the Foundation/ideas they may have?
I want to be a place members of the Moebius Community can come to provide feedback, ask any questions they might have, and share their ideas. Please feel free to reach out. My email is michael@moebiussyndrome.org.
